Thursday 9 August
Kicking off a colourful day at Festival 2018 with a fun for all the family! Children’s Classic Concerts’ Essential Orchestra brings a bright, youthful celebration of top tunes, sporting fun and medal-winning performances.
The family focus continues as Scotland’s biggest multi-cultural festival, Glasgow Mela takes to the stage curating a packed programme that fuses music and dance from across the world.
Two very special new commissions will be presented: Treenava, a dance commission developed by three very talented dance tutors, Anasua Mujimdar, Indian Kathak, Carmen Castro, Spanish Flamenco, and Ming Chu Au (Annie), Chinese Fan Dance. This colourful fusion performance features 15 local dancers from Glasgow and Edinburgh.
A crossover of Gaelic Fiddle and vocals and Indian violin and vocals, developed collaboratively by Sunita Bhuyan and Minakshe Mujimdar (India) and Alan Henderson and Kathleen McInnes (Scotland) will also feature. Generously supported by Creative Scotland, Eadarainn – Hamare Beech (Between Us) will be performed by 12 young musicians from Glasgow aged 14-20.
Other highlights of the day include Güngur Arts from Barcelona, Circus Raj, from India the exquisite LOK Chhanda, Scotland’s own Desi Bravehearts, Abhinaya Dance Group and Hellenic Dance Group, all bringing colour and energy to George Square.
Plus more from Baba Yaga and Strong Lady, and Circus Raj throughout the afternoon!
